role in working to enrich the cultural life of the Memphis community.

Website and Social Media Development Intern

Organization Information

The//Marcus W. Orr Center for the Humanities (MOCH) promotes
interdisciplinary research and teaching in the humanities at the
University of Memphis (UM) and in the wider community. Its various
initiatives—including an array of lectures, faculty seminars, fellowship
programs, and support for visiting scholars—are designed to encourage
scholarly collaboration across disciplinary boundaries. MOCH works to
promote the university’s scholarly resources in Memphis and throughout
the Midsouth, by supporting programming that stimulates broad interest,
fosters a vibrant intellectual culture, and helps cultivate community
conversations.

The Project

This summer, MOCH will embark on an exciting project to develop a new
“Humanities Hub” website and social media strategy. The main purpose of
this effort is to provide a highly visible, widely accessible
clearinghouse of information about humanities-related programming,
scholarship, and initiatives underway at institutions throughout the
city and region. Integral to this work will be a unified social media
strategy involving Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. The audience for
this effort is anyone interested in history, languages, philosophy,
English literature, and related disciplines and activities; this
includes members of the public, as well as faculty, staff, and students
at UM and other area institutions.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated, skilled, and creative individual
to work in close collaboration with the MOCH Director and UM staff to
develop, launch, and test the website and social media strategy
described above. Expertise in web-design, IT, and social media is
essential. Graduate and professional students preferred; experienced
undergraduate students welcome to apply. The ideal candidate will also
have experience in some or all of the following areas: graphic design,
marketing, and/or public relations. A passion for the arts and
humanities is a plus.

Internship Terms

This is a paid internship position. The internship period runs from June
1 through July 31, 2015. The recipient will receive $1500 (in two
monthly installments) for approximately 15 hours of work per week.
