FYI:
From: "Vinhthuy T Phan (vphan)" <vphan<mailto:vphan>>

I would like to let you know that this summer, we will offer an introduction to programming course in Python (COMP 4001/6001, MTWR 5:30-7:30PM from July 5 to August 5, 2016). I will be the instructor. There are three main goals I want to accomplish for this course:

  1. Teach beginners how to program. So, there’s no pre-requisite.
  2. Teach them how to program in Python.
  3. Teach them how to analyze data using Python packages including Pandas, Scikit-learn, seaborn and statsmodels. This will be based on two workshops that I taught earlier (https://github.com/vtphan/python-workshop)

IDT faculty search update

I’m pleased to say we received a very large (68), and very strong group of applicants for our open faculty position in IDT. After reviewing all the applications, the search committee decided upon six finalists. The committee conducted videoconference interviews with those six finalists. We currently have invited two of the finalists for campus interviews.  All other applicants are still under consideration, and will be, until negotiations are concluded and a hire is made. On behalf of the committee, we thank the applicants for their interest in the Instructional Design and Technology program at the University of Memphis. I will post more updates, including the interview schedules as they are finalized.

IDT Student Takes Top Honors

IDT student Daniel Taylor received a first place award in the education division at the University of Memphis Student Research Forum. The Forum, held on Monday, March 28th,  is an annual event which showcases the diverse research of undergraduate and graduate students. The purpose is to provide a venue for students matriculating at the University of Memphis to present their research to a panel of faculty judges in their respective disciplines. This forum enables students to develop their presentation skills and present their research in a formal, supportive environment.

The winning entry, Distance Education in Optometry: A Comparison of Two Neuroscience Courses, was judged on conception and execution, content, command of scholarship, and visual presentation.

Congratulations, Daniel!

Victory!.jpeg
