Job Title:  Learning and Development Intern                       

Reports to: Director of Learning and Development                    

Position Summary:  will be responsible for the assisting in the design, delivery and continuous improvement of training programs; assists with learning needs assessments,  and evaluation of organizational learning outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the creation of learning materials including: e-learning, interactive videos, and class handouts.
  • Works with Learning & Development Specialist to monitor class schedules and calendars.
  • Assist instructors with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and set up equipment.
  • Revises training materials in collaboration with lead instructors.
  • Assist with data collection related to needs assessment of the organization.
  • Documents employee compliance, attendance, and post learning evaluations

Technical

  • The intern will become proficient in various types of learning platforms including: PowerPoint, Camtasia, Captivate, Learning Management Systems, and Turning Technologies.

IDT Outstanding Graduate Student Award

We are excited to announce that one of our students was honored at yesterday’s College of Education Awards Ceremony. It’s an annual event and reception held on the university’s campus. The IDT Outstanding Graduate Student Award is given to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding record in coursework, research, service, and/or the promotion of the IDT program.

Katie M. Sharpe

Katie is a third year doctoral student, has defended her dissertation, and will be graduating in May. Please join us recognizing Katie Sharpe for her exceptional work.

Meet IDT’s New Graduate Assistants

Welcome to Katie Frulla and Pooja Garg, IDT’s new graduate assistants this year.

From Memphis, Katie has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Memphis. She has a master’s degree in education from Christian Brothers University and is a licensed for both K-6 and 7-12. She taught elementary and middle school for a number of years before transitioning into IDT. She is currently an Instructional Designer at Nike as well as an IDT doctoral student. As a mom of three, Katie stays busy.

Pooja is from India and came to Memphis in 2017. She has a master’s degree in computer science and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Education Psychology. Her hobbies include dancing, cooking, and reading novels.

New IDT Professor Dr. Craig Shepherd

Dr. Shepherd joins the ICL/IDT department this year. He grew up in Salt Lake City where he spent his free time exploring the outdoors. Because of this, he has a deep love for hiking and camping. Dr. Shepherd earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Brigham Young University before pursuing a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology at The University of Georgia. Following graduation, Dr. Shepherd along with his wife and three kids moved to Laramie, WY where he took a job at the University of Wyoming. While there, he examined how to improve distance education and develop a sense of community and affiliation among faculty, students, and alumni. The Shepherd family welcomed a fourth child into their family two years ago. Dr. Shepherd’s wife is from Knoxville and the family is excited to be in Tennessee.
Fun Fact: Dr. Shepherd has traveled to all 50 states in the United States (all but Hawaii by car). He loves road trips. Welcome, Dr. Shepherd!

Average weekly hours expected 40 hours / week
Assignment description IDs will work in a fast-paced, agile structure to create standards, templates, outlines and training assets including leader guides, participant guides, PPT, job aids, videos and assessments.
Candidate requirements 
  • Versatile instructional designer experienced in working with SMEs (engineers, line workers) to create task-based training to reflect business processes
  • Experience writing simple, crisp, concise learning assets with a heavy mix of visual cues (e.g. posters, job aides, Infographics, video)
  • Foundational visual design skills – able to use client graphics and follow current graphic design methods
  • Team player that is able to contribute quickly and  thrives in a dynamic and fluid environment
  • Proficient with PPT, Word, Snag it and basic video and video editing tools
  • Experience with distribution center or manufacturing training audiences is preferred
  • TWI experience or certification is preferred
  • Proficiency with eLearning tools is preferred
Location Onsite with client in Memphis.
Equipment Client will provide all needed hardware and software.
Work environment Candidate will be required to provide and wear composite or steel toe shoes.

Other personal protective equipment will be provided.
