Dr. Andrew Tawfik and UofM Team Receive NSF Grant

Dr. Andrew Tawfik

The National Science Foundation awarded a team from the UofM a $3.4 million grant to train individuals in the field of data science and fund research into programs that make data science easy for the public to use. Andrew Tawfik (ICL) worked on the grant as well as Dale Bowman (Math Sciences) and Vasile Rus and Scott Fleming (both from Computer Science). Andrew Olney (Psychology) serves as PI. Data science combines computer science, software design and statistics to analyze and increase access to data. The grant will allow the UofM to develop a data science program that will be accessible to those with and without computer science knowledge. ASCUE 2020

Jacqueline Stephen, an IDT Ed.D. candidate, is serving as the 2019-2020 President for ASCUE (www.ascue.org) and invites you to attend the ASCUE conference.

The Association Supporting Computer Users in Education (ASCUE) would like to extend a special invitation to current graduate students. Our annual conference, voted one of the top five conferences to attend by EdTech Magazine, will be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from June 7th – 11th, 2020. ASCUE has been at the heart of sharing innovations, collaboration, and creativity, and has provided valuable assistance to our many institutions through the sharing and exchanging of ideas and information regarding technology and instructional design.

We highly encourage graduate students to attend or present at our conference. This is an excellent opportunity for scholars to learn about the current technology trends in higher education. If you are using technology in an innovative way as part of your research projects, we’d love to hear about it! Presenting at ASCUE is a great way to gain public speaking experience in front of a friendly and receptive audience. You’ll find our members are eager to learn and share their own experiences. An ASCUE conference will help you develop a network of colleagues that share your interest in technology.

We look forward to celebrating ASCUE’s mission of sharing innovations, collaboration, and creativity in Education. We hope to see you there!

Please contact Jacqueline Stephen (jstphen2@memphis.edu) if you have any questions.

Ask a Trainer

The Association for Talent Development (ATD) http://td.org is launching a new column called “Ask a Trainer.”

The new column will provide a space for professionals to ask questions on training challenges, instructional design issues, and e-learning dilemmas.

Send your questions to askatrainer@td.org, and each Tuesday, ATD will answer difficult questions and provide insight into daily challenges trainers face.

Visit https://www.td.org/ask-a-trainer to ask a question or to read the column.
